Swansea Burn

We had planned this Sunday to volunteer for the Swansea Burn. This is part of the Burn event series, we are taking part in the Cardiff Burn in October and wanted to get a feel for the event, what better way than by helping out. We set off from Cardiff at 7.30am with both bikes in the back of the car for a cycle and explore later in the day.

We were on duty at the event from 9.00 am, first on Swansea beach to mark the half way point and hand out bands to the competitors and later off to the mountain bike section based at Kilvey Hill. It was here I would have my first ever disagreement with a bee and end up with a nice sting! We were on the hill until 2.30pm where we were picked up and taken back to the finish to see all the presentations - the weather was fab all day and we were keen to get on our bikes as it were. Great event and we will be helping out for the Mini Burn at Margam Park.

We decided to cycle along the Swansea Bike Path from the Marina to Mumbles approx 6 miles, this is a lovely family friendly cycle across Swansea Bay, just metres from the beach. On busy summer days you need to keep your wits about you with all the people about. The great thing about this path is that one side is clearly marked for Pedestrians the other for cycles - Simples!!

Apparently the Swansea Cycle Path runs along the line of the Old Mumbles tramway and is now one of the oldest traffice free paths in Swansea.

At the mumbles we stop for a well earned ice cream and a stroll around the promenade. We now make our way back along the Swansea Cycle Path and cross over the road just past Black Pill and join the Clyne Valley cycle Path, this is part of the National Cycle Route 4, we stay on this trail for a few miles. This is a great track and we can pick up a bit of speed. We stop just before the Swansea Road on the B4295 NR Gowerton for some nosh and then return back down the Trail back into Swansea and back to the University carpark where we have left the car.

A great and very full day out! I was pleased Sarah was driving back to Cardiff.
