Cwmcarn Forest Drive and the bike park
The day us ladies bottled it!
With the nights drawing in our Thursday Adventures are being cut short. This week we decided to drive our bikes to Cwmcarn forestry drive and take a peek around. With our upcoming event - Cardiff Burn - we thought we’d get some trail practice in and chose to ride the Twrch trail (there is a second trail but this is a downhill course). This is purpose built mountain bike track, sponsored by Whytes bikes, and graded red. We found the start point and headed forward. Unfortunately this was a bit too tricky, starting on single track up hill is not good for us ladies! We continued onwards, mostly walking our bikes through! until the track ran alongside the forest drive. We skipped off the track and onto the road and decided to take a leisurely ride up towards the top of the forestry. This is a lovely climb up with views stretching far and wide across the valley below and across onto the Bristol channel. With parking and picnic areas and even a playground with mini zip slide, there’s plenty to do and see along the way.
The park closes to cars after 4 o’clock this time of year so making your way back down on the road is great. With twists and turns downhill we get back to the car park in record time! Which is just as well as the night draws in but that doesn’t stop the die hard bikers who are fixing lights to helmets and pads to their elbows as we pack our bikes into the car :-)
