Cwmcarn Twrch Track

The Return!.

Having failed at the Twrch route on Thursday evening I returned Sunday with my boyfriend on hand to “guide” me through this trail. Having started again at the Twrch starting point and finding it too steep to begin with we head back onto the road and follow the rest of the cyclists up until gate 13 to join the red trail. After a tentative 15 minutes along single track I soon found myself flying along these trails, up hill and down hill at what felt like at times breakneck speed! At the top of the trail you’ll see the ” free ride” course which is so good we did it twice! All be a bit bruised from the first time round - yes I fell off! The last two/three hairpin bends did me and I hit the deck in spectacular fashion………if you stop long enough at this point you will also see great views of the Bristol channel, Flat Holms and Steep Holms.

Trail name: Twrch Centre: Cwmcarn Distance: 18km Climbing: 300m Time: 1.5 - 2.5 hrs

"You might expect to see a Hobbit while you’re ducking and weaving up alongside the beautiful wooded stream at the start but only a Lord of the lungs isn’t going to be breathing out of their ring by the top! Payback is fantastic though, with the optional freeride park start leading into mile after mile of swooping speeder bike singletrack" Click Here for further information on Cwmcarn Forestry Drive and Mountain Bike trails

Camping is available at the Forestry drive with Glamping pods to hire if you don’t fancy “ruffing” it.

At the car park you’ll find a bike wash - just remember on your way up to the track to exchange a £1 token at the visitor centre!
