Devils Bridge

Wales GB Rally Adventure!

Adventure Thursdays are now likely to be hard to come by. With the clocks going back and the darker nights we have decided to just make the best use of the time we have, odd days off and weekends etc.

It was in this frame of mind I accepted a suggestion from Sarah for a short walk last Friday as she had the afternoon off to drop her son Jordan off on a kayaking weekend. I had incorrectly assumed this was up Brecon way where he works. How wrong I was.

Friday morning arrives, the weather is looking great and we have decided to set off at 12pm, just as well...

Sarah picks me up with Kayak on the roof and we set off. It is not until we are in the car that I realise the kayaking centre we are heading for is in Llandysul near Carmarthen. No problem I think nice day for a drive and Sarah seems confident the walk is close by.

We arrive at the kayaking centre with some interesting navigation from Jordan, sorry Jordon "take your first left at the roundabout, no not that one or that one yes that one!" It’s just after 2pm. We eat our sarnies and it’s off to find this Devils Bridge walk. 1 hour and 20 mins later driving via Lampeter and only a few miles from Aberwystwith we arrive at our destination - that is with quite a bit of effort using our GPS on our phones and Sat Nav!

When we arrive at 4pm it’s shutting! Looks like a privately owned park. We manage to get in just and start our short walk. Well it might have taken us an age to get here but the autumn colours and scenery are stunning. We had seen some great sights on our drive including several buzzards and red kites, wonderful

The parkland is very hilly with good paths and lots of steps. There are several viewing platforms to take in the scenery and we take a couple of snaps of the bridge and waterfalls. The walk didn't seem to take 45 mins but at a leisurely stroll it is pleasant enough. If you are in the area then it is worth a visit. There does seem to be a walk on the other side of the bridge too but this is all shut up when we come back out.

No time to hang around, we have a long journey ahead of us. We sit in the car and look at our gps and try to plot a route home. We decide that due to the fact we only have an hour or so before it will be dark we will head up to the A44 and head across mid Wales and pick up the A470 at Rhadayer which we know via Brecon will get us home.

Off we set, about 30 mins in we are in wonderful rolling hills and Sarah announces great we are in Brecon! No Sarah I exclaim we are still in Mid Wales......

We eventually get in at 7.30pm. Poor Sarah has driven for 6 hours. Note to self next time Sarah suggests an adventure check where and how far LOL Still we both agree we have had a fun afternoon and as usual an adventure!
