About

Newport Harriers Athletics Club was established in 1896; making it South Wales’s oldest athletics club.  The club has a rich history of competing at road and cross country and running; and track and field athletics involving the sprinting, jumping and throwing events and middle distance running.

We are proud to have helped the development of world class Olympic medallists such as Christian Malcolm and Jamie Baulch; and world record holder for the marathon, Steve Jones.

Newport Harriers is based at the Newport Stadium where we provide coaching and competition for all athletics events for all age groups from age 7 through to senior and master athletes.

We are a very diverse and welcoming club for athletes of all abilities and backgrounds.  With younger children we aim to develop strong and healthy all round athletes before training them to compete in specific events.

Training nights at the stadium are on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; although some training groups will organise separate sessions at locations away from the track at other times.

We offer very competitive membership packages including family membership, which would cover up to 2 adults and any number of children from the same family unit, for £30 per month.

If you’re interested in membership, we’d love to hear from you. Simply check out our Membership page for more information or come down to the Newport Stadium and talk to us on a training night.

Newport Harriers Athletic Club is run by volunteer coaches and administrators.

Most of our coaches work tirelessly without financial reward from October through to the end of August.

We therefore effectively shut down activities for most of September to allow coaches to take a well earned break.  However some sessions will be held in September.
