BUCS Athletics: Indoor Championships

14-16 February, Sheffield

BUCS Nationals is the championships for all British University students. It is a high quality event featuring a fair sprinkling of junior and senior British internationals such as Olympic pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw. Newport Harriers were represented by Dan Cork, Remi Adebiyi and Jackson Mountford.

Dan Cork gave the best performance in the shot put prelims, setting a senior club record with 16.32m. Dan went even better in the final, taking gold with yet another club record of 16.38m.

Remi Adebiyi always looked in control in the 1500m heats but in the final was up against GB U20 international Tom Keen who on paper is 13 seconds quicker. With 200m to go Remi was 2nd behind Keen but poised to attack, and produced a decisive kick on the final bend to take gold.

Jackson Mountford was in a tough 3000m heat and could not hang on long enough to the quick pace but gained valuable experience in his first BUCS.
