Coronavirus COVID 19 Update 17th March 2019

Updated: Mar 17, 2020

Following the latest announcements by the Government on coronavirus Newport Harriers decided last night to suspend all training. Within the last hour Welsh Athletics have also issued guidance to stop all athletic activities and advising clubs to take decisions to protect their members in line with Government advice.

We have therefore decided in line with Government and Welsh Athletic advice to suspend all training until the end of April. Welsh Athletics will be reviewing this situation at the end of April and not before. Newport Harriers will keep in close contact with Welsh Athletics and continue to monitor the Government guidelines throughout this crisis.

The Government advice currently is that unnecessary social gatherings of 3 or more people should be avoided. That applied to us as a club would suggest training groups should not meet away from the track. The government have said in their advice that walking, jogging, cycling and running were activities that should still be encouraged. This would suggest that people are ok to continue training on their own or with one other person, but not in groups.

Coaches are urged to stay in touch with athletes via email or social media. Please do all you can to stay safe and healthy. This message will be repeated on Facebook. Can all members pass on this message to contacts that may not use the website and social media.
