Covid 19 return to training update

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

Newport Live have confirmed under 18s can return to training on April 6th.

As before the club will be booking 3 x 1 hour slots. Maximum number per training group 30 athletes.

The time slots are as below (note athletes cannot at present book 2 or more slots on the same evening)

17:30 to 18:30

18:30 to 19:30

19:30 to 20:30

Kirsty Crane will be handling bookings. Please can coaches book in their athletes with her as soon as possible.

The earliest adults can return to training during our booked sessions is 22nd April. Adults can still however get together for informal sessions subject to Welsh Government guidelines. Formal coaching sessions for adults are still not permitted.

The cages, both inside the stadium and outside have now been cleared for use and we intend treating the outside cage as a separate facility in terms of booking usage of the facility. The officers have been working on ensuring that the outside cage can be used when we return in April. There has been additional work done as the ground surrounding the outside cage was not suitable to allow access.

A temporary path has been constructed and we are grateful to Chris Parry for arranging delivery of 2 dozen paving slabs From Montel Construction, which Ken Goodger started to lay before the December lockdown started.

We have considered online bookings systems and have looked at more than 10 different potential systems. However the volume of bookings currently makes the cost of these prohibitive and there would still be a need to manage the system, which would not reduce the workload of the person managing bookings.

Provisional competition dates can be found on the Welsh Athletics, Youth Development League and Midland League websites. All league fixtures remain subject to cancellation if the situation with Covid 19 deteriorates.

We look forward to seeing all our members back in action soon.
