UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships

10 March, Prestwold Hall, Loughborough

UK Inter Counties is the biggest cross country event of the season with 300 entrants in each race, and only those selected for their county are eligible to compete. As it is a UK Championship event the quality is exceptionally high with the senior races featuring British internationals such as Gemma Steel and Andy Vernon.

Newport Harriers selections wear the purple vest of East Wales for this competition. Our one senior athlete, Abed Teweldebrhan, was 73rd in the men’s race.

Our other top 100 finish on the day came from Jackson Mountford, 98th in U17 Men. Remi Adebiyi was also top 100 in this race but DQ’d for not wearing a chip. Several of our athletes made significant improvements on last year’s performance: Lily Williams from 234th to 109th; Michael Owen 243rd to 179th; Jake Seville 204th to 160th.

The course was nothing but mud from start line to finish, and all of our athletes should be proud to have gained selection and competed in these challenging conditions at this national level.
