Welsh Athletics East Region London Mini Marathon Trials

23 January, Newport Stadium

Regional trials are taking place across Wales with the winner in each region earning a Welsh vest and a place in the team to take part in the London Mini Marathon in April in U13, U15 & U17 age categories.

East trials were raced concurrently with South trials over 3000m in cold and icy conditions at Newport Stadium.

First to claim a Mini Marathon spot was Ceri Griffiths who ran with ease and maturity to fairly dominate the U13 Girls race. Next was Leo Stark who pulled away gradually from his East rivals for a comfortable victory in U13 Boys. The U15 Girls trial was effectively a Newport Harriers Club Championship with Lily Hart getting the better of her team mates Elin Griffiths, Lily Williams and Alyssa Baker. Finally Elur Urkola won the U15 Boys race but as a Welsh resident but Spanish national his eligibility will have to be considered.

So congratulations to Ceri Griffiths, Leo Stark, Lily Hart, and maybe Elur Urkola, who will be in the Welsh team for London Mini Marathon.
