Welsh Athletics Indoor International 2019 (& Welsh Senior Men 3000m Championships)

3 March, National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff

Excellent performances from Newport athletes at the annual Welsh Indoor International.

This event also incorporated the Welsh Senior Men’s 3000m Indoor Championships which saw Abed Teweldebrhan take the gold medal by a clear margin from the Aberdare duo of Bodman and Evans.

Remi Adebiyi and Jackson Mountford both competed for the Wales U20 team. In 800m Remi took the inside line and switched on his trademark burners with 130 metres to go to secure a decisive victory in a PB of 1.55.41

In 1500m Jackson Mountford bounced back from a frustrating run at U20 England Championships the previous weekend to take the race out confidently from the start. Jackson finished 3rd not far behind the silver and bronze medallists from England Championships – Luke Duffy & Daniel Preston – and ahead of Welsh U20 1500m champion David Locke from Cardiff AAC.

Catrin Phillips was a guest entrant in the England v Wales 800m match race. Catrin knocked 4 seconds off her PB and beat one of the Welsh selections. Catrin’s 2.16.90 is the fastest 800m by a female Newport Harrier since Clare Martin in 2005.

Dylan Bevan guested in shot and threw 10.51 for 8th place.

The Welsh team was expertly team managed by our own Dave Goodger
