Welsh Masters Indoor Champs

Sunday 20th January 2018, NIAC

Last Sunday saw the Welsh Indoors Masters Championships held in NIAC.

Newport Harriers Masters were out in force, with plenty of top performances and medals

First up was Stuart Pearce in the 60m M40 he looked strong in an open race with youngsters and claimed silver. Later Stuart competed in the 200m his preferred event, he ran 26.55 to win gold.

James Morgan also did the 60 and the 200. He put in 2 good performances early season to claim 2 golds.

Keith Powell entered the 60m winning gold in the M55 category with a time of 8.74 and in the 200m he again claimed gold with a time of 28.85

Lee Richards had a great start in the 200m and looked majestic as he came off the top bend, only for his hamstring to go. He valiantly hobbled across the line to pick up a gold medal.

Brett Davis put in a sterling performance having been injured for most of last year. He picked up two club records the M55 age category. 800m in 2.24.21 followed up by 400m in 62.80, which also earned two Welsh Masters silver medals.

Eleri Jones was first up for the ladies in the 60m, she only took up masters athletics 4 months ago and ran a fantastic time of 8.73 to win gold in the W35 category. Later in the day she put in another good performance to take the gold in the 200m W35 category. Plenty mote to come from this youngster...

Juliet Sidney (AKA Pocket Rocket) also competed in the 60m and 200m and came away with 2 golds. She was hoping for better times but hopefully these will come as the indoor season progresses.

Louise Kirby arrived early to watch her team mates and later in the afternoon she was first up in the 200m. She had a solid start to the season taking silver in the 200m. Louise not one to miss a challenge was soon up again in the 400m. She was in a race with seniors and did really well to bag a gold medal. Tough cookie that one :)
